The airport is governed by the Tri-Cities Airport Authority whose members are appointed by the cities of Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, Bristol and both Washington County and Sullivan County. The Public Safety Department has many types of emergency vehicles in their inventory. It serves the Tri-Cities area of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Under FAA guidelines, a full scale disaster drill is held every three years that tests the Public Safety Department’s training, and provides the opportunity to train closely with mutual responding agencies.
